Fate was working its magic without our knowledge!
Guided by destiny our talents collided & LDM Artisans was born.
We create in our studio workshops located in what is known as the"quiet corner" of Connecticut where rolling hills, village greens, woodland trails and a diverse assortment of historic sites give us our inspiration for some of our creations.
Our creations are totally handmade from the hand sewn neckbands to the lampworking beads.  Because the beads are torched & manipulated by hand, no two are ever exactly the same.  The manufacturing process of our vintage lockets has not changed in 50 years & many lockets are now found in estate jewelry.  We are the classic story of artisans working our crafts until the day we met, a relationship was formed & we knew all the years of knowledge & our talents led us to this.
The famous quote by Bob Dylan "A person is a success if they get up in the morning & gets to bed at night & in between does what he wants to do applies to us at this point in our lives.
To tell our story is just to tell our backgrounds, LDM stand for Laura, Denise & Michele.
  • Laura grew up in the jewelry related business making the vintage lockets with her family and have been ding this for the past 50 some years.  However, her real love is sewing, designing, graphic arts & animals.
  • Denise & her husband Bob worked a family chicken farm with her father but in between caring for the chickens she developed a skill for creating works of art in stained glass.  Both her and Bob have been working in glass repair and restoration for over twenty years.  Thanks to their expertise, some of New England's oldest windows will hold their structure and beauty for another century.  However, her real love was creating beads using the lampworking process but she did not know how to turn these beautiful beads in wearable art.
  • Michele is a registered nurse working at a local hospital part time & she works with Denise on the stained glass in the studio.  However, she also had a love to make beads, & she leaves her own signature on beads that set them apart for the beads created by her sister, Denise.
A few years ago, Denise & Bob decided to downsize to a smaller house and divide the farm property putting the original farm house up for sale.  Their son converted part of the chicken coup to his a house and the other part to a barn where a farm has continued to operate raising goats, selling the milk, creating a great line of goat milk based soaps and goat cheese which has become quite famous.  However, a main concern when they put the farm house on the open market was the land arrangement since all the houses and studios share one big yard and the buyer had to like animals!
At the same time, Laura had decided to re-locate to a smaller house where she could be closer to her job & her children.  She had a concern because she also had pets and wanted to find a farm house with an open area.  After many months of searching, Laura looked at this house, decided it was the one and of course the rest is history!
As stated in the beginning of our story, fate was working because Laura had driven past that house for 30 years on her way to work when it was the chicken farm & stained glass studio!  Soon after moving in we realized we were unique in many ways and the same in many ways.  It is not too often that a buyer lives next to the previous owner of their home and they become great friends.
Slowly Denise & Laura talked about their talents, Denise did not know how to turn those great beads into jewelry, Laura renovated the farm house to turn the garage (formerly used by Denise as the stained glass studio) into her sewing & room & work studio with the hopes of getting back to sewing in her spare time.  Over many cups of coffee they created what they now offer on several web sites.  There are links to all sites on our links page showing all their other endeavors.
